It seems like she did better in the quiet parts, but you are right , those beast like screeches in Playing, and the "vocalise" in Scarlet ... For what she added to the band, she seemed more like " extra luggage" most of the time , especially in the jam heavy period 72-74 .
Hearing yourself on stage, in a loud Rock setting is not always easy, not everyone can do it . The Dead developed their monitor systems, to try to deal with this difficulty . One must have GREAT respect for the Beatles , when you listen to those live shows , no monitors, and LOUD screaming girls, and yet they are still in tune !
Poor Donna ... maybe with the "in ear" system ? But sometimes you wonder , what the fuck were they thinking ?
